Sainspiorad na Scoile

Beidh an Ghaeilge ina teanga chumarsáide sa scoil idir dhaltaí, foireann agus bord bainistíochta, agus beidh sárchaighdeán oideachais á chur ar fáil i ngach ábhar, an Béarla san áireamh. Bíonn córas an tumoideachais i bhfeidhm i scoileanna AN FORAS PÁTRÚNACHTA mar go bhfuil sé aitheanta gurb é seo an córas is éifeachtaí chun an teanga a shealbhú. Tá a lán buntáistí ag baint leis an oideachas dátheangach agus déantar cur síos orthu thíos. Cuimsítear na buntáistí seo a leanas mar bhuntáistí a bhaineann leis an dátheangachas; féinmhuinín níos airde, ardú sa chumas cognaíoch agus cumas níos fearr sa dara teanga (Béarla i gcás na nGaelscoileanna). Cuireann an tumoideachas an dátheangachas chun cinn ar bhonn nádúrtha, chomh maith leis an délitearthacht a fhorbairt ag an am céanna.

Forbraíonn agus leathnaíonn sé seo cruthaitheacht agus íogaireacht chumarsáide na ndaltaí. Bíonn ardú féinmhuiníne sa pháiste mar thoradh ar an dátheangachas, rud a chruthaíonn tuiscint níos doimhne ina gcuid féinaitheantais. Tumtar na daltaí trí éiteas an Ghaelcholáiste i gcultúr na hÉireann, ar bhonn foirmiúil agus neamhfhoirmiúil araon. Mar thoradh air seo, cothaítear tuiscint agus meas níos doimhne iontu ar an ilchultúrachas atá i sochaí an lae inniu.

Léirigh taighde faisnéise a d’fhoilsigh an Roinn Oideachais i dTuaisceart na hÉireann go raibh dearcadh an-dearfach ag iardhaltaí Gaelscoileanna ar an taithí oideachasúil agus chultúrtha a bhí faighte acu ar scoil. Tugadh le tuiscint chomh maith go raibh siad níos oscailte don éagsúlacht chultúrtha agus go raibh caoinfhulaingt níos doimhne acu ar na cultúir seo mar gheall ar an taithí ar shaibhriú cultúir a bhí faighte acu.

 

Irish will be the language of communication in the school between pupils, staff and board of management, and educational excellence will be provided in all subjects, including English. The immersion system is in place in schools under the patronage of an Foras Patrúnachta as it is recognized that this is the most effective way to acquire a language. There are many advantages of bilingual education and are described below. These include; higher self-confidence, increase in cognitive ability and superior ability in a second language (English in the case of medium schools). The bilingual immersion system is based on contemporaneous natural dual literacy development.

A bilingual education develops and extends creativity and sensitivity to student communication. Bilingualism in children increases levels of self awareness, creating a deeper understanding of themselves. Students are immersed in to Irish culture, on both aformal and informal basis. As a result, this fosters in them a deeper understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism in today's society. Research in Northern Ireland has shown that former pupils in Irish medium schools held very positive views of the educational and cultural experience they had gained in school. It was also suggested that they were more open to cultural diversity and tolerance was deeper on these cultures because of the enriching cultural experience they had gained.
